Lessons I Learned as an Entrepreneur by Marco Baez Owner of Emerald Sky Group

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

"One of the biggest lessons I've learned is the importance of perseverance and caring for people."

As a successful entrepreneur, I have learned many valuable lessons throughout my career. One of the most important lessons I have learned is that success does not happen overnight. It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance to achieve your goals. When I first started taking on freelance work, I had no idea it would eventually lead to the creation of my own company. It was a gradual process that required countless late nights and weekends to build up my client base.

As I began to see my hard work paying off and my company expanding, it fueled me to keep pushing forward. Today, my team and I work with clients all over the world, and we are constantly looking for new challenges to take on.

Another important lesson I have learned is the importance of listening. This makes me genuinely interested in the story of our clients, about their aspirations and dreams, and it makes me grasp their goal and work together with my team to make it a reality.

Lastly, resourcefulness is another important lesson I have learned. Whenever there is a big difficulty, I am able to stop and calmly think of ways we can come up with a solution. For example, once a client came to me because they had lost their website. Thankfully, I remembered that our team had used a specific software in the past to archive websites. We were able to retrieve most of the content and information from the client's website and rebuild it.

The Importance of Perseverance, Listening, and Resourcefulness

As the famous author and motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, once said, "Success is not a destination, it's a journey." This quote has always resonated with me because it's a reminder that success is a process and not an endpoint. It requires continuous hard work, perseverance, and learning. Another famous entrepreneur, Mark Cuban, shared a similar sentiment when he said, "It doesn't matter how many times you have failed, you only have to be right once." This quote speaks to the importance of perseverance in the face of failure. It's not about avoiding failure altogether, but rather, it's about learning from your mistakes and using them as stepping stones towards success.

Caring for People Can Benefit Your Business

In my career, I have learned some significant lessons from the experiences I've had. One of the biggest lessons I've learned is the importance of perseverance and caring for people. I have faced numerous challenges and obstacles that have tested my resolve and commitment to my work. But with each experience, I have come to realize that perseverance and caring for people are two of the most important qualities that one can possess in the world of entrepreneurship.

Perseverance is essential because building a successful business is not easy. It takes time, hard work, and an unwavering determination to push through the inevitable setbacks and failures. As an entrepreneur, you need to be willing to take risks, to try new things, and to keep pushing forward even when things get tough.

But perseverance alone is not enough. To truly succeed, you also need to care deeply about the people around you. This means building strong relationships with your employees, your customers, and your partners, and always putting their needs first. When you care about people, you create a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration that can help you achieve great things.

I have learned this lesson firsthand through my own experiences. For example, when I first started my business, I faced numerous challenges, from financial setbacks to staffing issues. But I persevered, working long hours and putting in the effort to build a great team and deliver outstanding service to our customers. And along the way, I made sure to show my team members that I cared about them as individuals, taking the time to listen to their concerns and offering support when they needed it.

As a result, we were able to build a successful business together, one that is still going strong today. And I believe that this success was due in large part to the perseverance and caring that we showed each other along the way. If there's one thing I've learned in my career as an entrepreneur, it's that perseverance and caring for people are two of the most important qualities that you can possess. So if you want to build a successful business and make a difference in the world, remember to never give up and to always put the needs of others first.

In conclusion, my journey from working a full-time job to running my own successful company has been one filled with ups and downs, but it has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. My advice to anyone out there who is dreaming of starting their own business or pursuing a passion is simple: put in the work, look to God and family for advice, and never back down if the door is open.
