Procrastination is a habit that can be overcome. Like the habit of building a sense of urgency, it can be learned.
There are six steps you can take to develop your sense of urgency. They inspire you to overcome procrastination, get to work on the most important tasks, and stay focused until the final completion.
1. Set worthy goals
Set yourself worthy goals that you desperately want to achieve. All motivation requires “motivation.” One of the main causes of procrastination is not having a specific goal that you feel compelled to commit to and stick to until it is finally achieved.
2. Imagine that your task is done
Train your mind to overcome procrastination by imagining that your tasks are already accomplished. Visualize accomplishing your goals. Visualize how it feels to leave your work behind. Visualize the satisfaction you’ll feel when you’ve accomplished it.
3. Practice making positive affirmations
Use the power of positive affirmations to instill a sense of urgency in your subconscious mind. At the beginning of each task, keep repeating the phrase, “Do it now! Do it now! Do it now!”
4. Give yourself clear deadlines
Set yourself a deadline for doing all the important things. Make a note of yourself. Tell people that you will have the work done by a specific date.
5. Refuse to make excuses
All procrastination comes with a variety of plausible explanations for the behavior. This kind of “rationalization” is perfectly defined as “the attempt to explain why otherwise it would not be acceptable to the general public by an acceptable reason”.
6. Cultivate positive habits with rewards
Ninety-five percent of what you do or don’t do is determined by your habits, for better or worse. One key to success is to develop good habits and make them your master.
Reward yourself every time you accomplish something positive and use it to develop the habit of overcoming procrastination until you rewire your subconscious mind for good.
